Wellbeing

According to Dr. Michelle McQuaid, founder of The Wellbeing Lab, "Wellbeing =  Feeling Good + Functioning Effectively."

Dr. McQuaid's work is inspired by the founder of positive psychology, Dr. Martin Seligman. Dr. Seligman's PERMA theory of wellbeing includes five "building blocks" that allow us to flourish; each building block has strategies that help increase it.

  • Positive Emotion

  • Engagement

  • Relationships

  • Meaning

  • Accomplishment

  • Health

While PERMAH is the model that guides our program's wellbeing efforts, the nine dimensions of wellness are also an excellent way to explore the many ways we can nourish our wellbeing.

The AVMA embraces these nine dimensions, which include:

  1. Occupational wellbeing

  2. Intellectual wellbeing

  3. Spiritual wellbeing

  4. Social wellbeing

  5. Emotional wellbeing

  6. Physical wellbeing

  7. Financial wellbeing

  8. Creative wellbeing

  9. Environmental wellbeing
