Many people looking for a career in veterinary technology begin their education at a community college earning an associate's degree. Students with an AAS from an AVMA accredited Veterinary technology program, can transfer to Appstate to complete their Bachelors. The advantage of getting your bachelor's degree is that students receive more focused clinical time to hone their skills and also get to select a focus area, so students take courses that directly relate to their interests.
The three Focus Areas for Appstate's Bachelors program include: Companion Animal; Practice Management; and One Health. For those unfamiliar with One Health, it refers to two related ideas. First, it is the concept that humans, animals, and the world we live in are inextricably linked. Second, it refers to the collaborative effort of multiple disciplines working locally, nationally, and globally to attain optimal health for people, animals, and the environment.
